Afghanistan releases another 300 Taliban prisoners

The government of Afghanistan has released 317 Taliban prisoners since the start of the Feast of Sacrifice. A total of 4,917 Taliban prisoners have already been released in recent weeks. A spokesman for the Afghan national security council reports on Twitter on Sunday.

The Taliban announced on Tuesday that they are following a three-day ceasefire in Afghanistan on the occasion of the Islamic Festival of Sacrifice. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani ordered all security forces in the country to comply with the file. He also promised that he would soon complete the release of all 5,000 Taliban prisoners, a stumbling block on the way to peace talks.

At an international summit in Kabul, Ghani not only called on the Taliban to observe a truce during the Feast of Sacrifice, but also asked them to begin peace talks within a week.
