Acid farewell for Elijah: Danish storm Basaksehir is too powerful

Eljero Elia has played his last game for Basaksehir. The brand new Turkish champion had to bow to FC Copenhagen in Denmark and is out of the Europa League.

Basaksehir had won the first leg 1-0, but was able to enjoy that support for three minutes: Guillermo Varela steamed up on the right and passed, Jonas Wind made the early opening goal with a mighty header. Not long after, it also seemed to be 2-0, but goalkeeper Mert Günok held off Rasmus Falk Jensen. The value of entertainment dropped during the first half, but Basaksehir smelled his crucial away goal just before half-time: Edin Visca missed that opportunity, completely balancing the signs halfway through.

In the first fifteen minutes after the break it became clear how expensive that chance was. Copenhagen quickly ran to 3-0. Wind made his second of the evening from the penalty spot and Falk Jensen took revenge not long after for his previously missed opportunity. Basaksehir was unable to recover after that double blow: Copenhagen had more than enough to make it to the quarterfinals in the 3-0.

The Danes will hear later in the evening who they will meet, but in fact already know that. Unless LASK Linz can still make up a 5-0 deficit, FC Copenhagen will play against Manchester United.
