A striking statistic shows how Belgian the Belgian highest football class still is – Voetbalnieuws

Several striking things have happened on the first day of the Jupiler Pro League. Besides the results, we have another striking statistic for you: less than 50% at the kick-off were Belgian.

For several years now, the Pro League and other authorities have been trying to impose a maximum on the number of foreign players in order to enable the emergence of Belgian players in the Jupiler Pro League.

But after the first day of play, we have to say one thing: less than 50% of all players who took action were Belgian. 86 of the 198 players who kicked off, were. Or a total of just 43.4%.

The best students? Anderlecht, KV Mechelen and Waasland-Beveren with 7 Belgian players. The worst students in the class is Genk with 2 Belgians. But Antwerp, STVV and Mouscron follow closely with 3 barely 3 Belgian players at the kick-off.
