Abdoulie Sanyang (21) was a small sensation in 1B last year. He stood out with PhD student Lommel almost every week with his fast first meters and his unpredictable dribbles. Lommel hired the flank attacker from the Gambian Superstars Academy FC, Beerschot is doing the same this season. In contrast to Lommel last year, the Mannekes did include a purchase option in the lease with the Gambian football academy. In addition, Beerschot also acquired a ‘sell-on fee’ on future transfer fees for Sanyang.
Sanyang is known as a great talent and had to choose the clubs this summer, on the Kiel they expect a lot from the young Gambian. “But the rough diamond has yet to be cut,” says technical manager Sander van Praet on the club website. “Abdoulie has a lot of potential, that is clear. He was one of the standout players in 1B last season. That is not self-evident for a 20-year-old who has never played in a European league. With his speed and unpredictable dribbles, he can hurt many defenders. ”
Omar Colley as an example
“I received a good education at the Superstars Academy,” says the timid Sanyang on the Beerschot website. “Many Gambian talents are being prepared there for the big work. I mainly take an example from Omar Colley who played for Genk and now plays for Sampdoria. When I came to Belgium last year, everything went pretty smoothly. A new culture, a new climate, a new competition, different football, … I was used to it quite quickly and I could persevere and show more and more. I am now ready for the next step. I hope to be able to show myself at a nice club like Beerschot and in 1A. This is now the ideal club to develop myself further. ”
It is still unclear whether Sanyang will already be entitled to play against Ostend on Monday. That will be a race against time.
