A Siberian tiger bit and killed an employee of the Zurich Zoo, aged 55. The fact has happened Sunday around 13.30. For the woman, the injury was fatal to the point that, despite the sudden rescue, there was nothing to do. After the alert, given by a visitor, two teams intervened to lure the tiger out of the fence and provide relief to the victim of the attack, but the woman died on the spot. The dynamics of the accident are still unclear as to why the 55-year-old was in the fence with the tiger. At the moment, Irina, a female specimen of the Amur tiger (or Siberian tiger) of 5 years, the second present in the zoos together with Sayan, a male of four and a half years, is still alive and has been placed in isolation. Employees made it clear that the animal had never shown up to then signs of aggression. The area where the accident occurred has been fenced off and investigations are still ongoing.

The Zurich Zoo was one of the first structures to resume activity after lockdown, opening its doors as early as June 6th. For the structure, this is the second accident in a few months in which an employee of the plant remains a victim: already in December 2019, in fact, a male specimen of Philippine crocodile had bite an employee’s arm during a normal cleaning of the cage. In that case the animal had been killed.
