Working from home costs you about 2 euros a day – and who should pay that?

Because of the corona crisis, we are working at home en masse, which means extra costs, according to a calculation by the Nibud information institute.

Those extra expenses go to the consumption of electricity, water and gas. In addition, extra coffee, tea and toilet paper must be brought home. On an annual basis, this quickly amounts to 440 euros extra, says the institute for budget information.

Request compensation

The Nibud therefore advises people who work from home to discuss with their boss whether they can receive an extra compensation for the extra costs they incur. After all, employees cannot deduct the costs from their tax return, but employers can reimburse certain costs untaxed via the work-related costs scheme.
