Usa, statue of Columbus overthrown by demonstrators in Baltimore

WASHINGTON – Just as President Donald Trump was celebrating Independence Day in the White House and lashing out at protests that flared up across the country, a group of demonstrators lashed out at the statue of Christopher Columbus in Baltimore by throwing it into the sea.

Baltimore, so the statue of Columbus was demolished

The protesters, who shouted slogans calling for the removal of the statues dedicated to Columbus throughout the United States, used the ropes to overthrow the monument in the Little Italy neighborhood. The accusation against the Italian explorer is that of having been responsible for the genocide and exploitation of the native populations in the Americas. Other statues were overturned or vandalized in Miami, Richmond, St. Paul and Boston where Columbus’ effigy was beheaded.

Coronavirus worldwide: Trump celebrates July 4th and attacks China. But it is a boom of contagions

“Together we will fight for the American dream and defend and protect the American way of life, which began in 1492 with the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus,” Donald Trump had said shortly before the celebrations of 4 July. “We will not allow the angry crowd to tear down our statues, erase our history, indoctrinate our children and trample on our freedoms.” But the response of the movement that arose after the murder of George Floyd by a police patrol came immediately.
