It’s been almost 30 years since Tom and his friend Joseph agreed that if one of them wins the lottery they will split the amount equally • This week it happened – Tom won $ 22 million in the lottery and did not disappoint: “I thought he was working on me when I read the first numbers I froze “

“A handshake is a handshake” – this is the motto by which Tom Cook from Wisconsin grew up. In 1992 he made an agreement with his good friend Joseph Finney that if any of them won the lottery they would split the amount equally and sign a handshake. Over the years they made sure to buy lottery tickets until 28 years later it happened – Tom Cook won $ 22 million in the lottery and hurried to call his friend Pini.

“I told him, ‘Are you working on me?'” Pini said. “When I read the first 2-3 numbers I froze in place, handed them to my wife and then she froze too.”

Tom’s decision to keep a nearly three – decade promise has drawn quite a bit of discussion, but Tom had no hesitation in the matter: “It happened many years ago, but a handshake is a handshake.”

Tom and Joseph, accompanied by their wives, arrived at the Wisconsin lottery offices to collect the check. Along the way they have already agreed that they will ask for the money in one payment. Of the $ 22 million that Tom won, and after deducting tax, each of them pocketed close to six million dollars. “I have grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I can not think of a better way to retire,” Tom said after the win.

Joseph, a former firefighter, has long since retired. Tom left his job immediately after the win. Together they are already planning a big trip, but one thing they do not give up – continue to fill out lottery tickets. “I’ve been buying two tickets ever since,” Tom revealed. “How much can I already lose? How many dollars?”.
