322 (152 males and 170 women) were born in the first half of 2020 against 654 deaths. Based on the data processed by the Statistics Office of the Union of Municipalities Valle del Savio, the dynamics of the first six months of the year saw a negative natural balance (-332), mitigated only in part by the positive migratory balance (+255). The total balance (-77) recorded in the first half is less favorable to the male component (-43 males -34 females): women with 50,073 inhabitants represent 51.64% of the total population (96,961 units).
Compared to 2019 data, the number of people born in the first half of 2020 shows an increase: 322 in total compared to 291 last year, of which 67 foreigners (20.8%). Leading the provisional ranking of “new Cesena” with foreign citizenship we find in first place Albania with 11 new born. Romania and Bangladesh follow with 10 births each, Nigeria with 8 births and Morocco with 6. The increase in births clashes – unfortunately – with a marked increase in deaths which, in the first half of 2020, amounted to 654 (+ 20% compared to the first half of 2019). Certainly the COVID-19 epidemic experienced in our city and the high rate of population over 75 (13.6%), influence this figure. We recall that Cesena has recorded 71 deaths of Covid + classified citizens since the beginning of the health emergency (as at 30 June) (194 deaths in the province of Forlì-Cesena and 84 in the Cesenate area).
The elderly made up the portion of the population most vulnerable to the effects of the Coronavirus epidemic. Since March, the Statistics Office has monitored weekly deaths recorded in the Civil Status of Cesena – Ufficio. The deaths that affected people over 75 occurred in Cesena, comparing them with the same months of the previous years: the increase in deaths since 2019 is equal to 19%. The most populous district remains the Oltre Savio with 18,813 residents representing 19.4% of the population. If instead we consider the density of the population in the first place, well spaced from the other neighborhoods, there is the Urban Center with 2,614 inhabitants per Km2.
On the wedding front, however, 46 were celebrated in the first half (53 less than in the same period of 2019). After the historic overtaking of civil marriages on religious, which took place for the first time in 2013, in the first half of 2020 this trend is certainly amplified due to the effect of confinement which would have suggested a date postponement to those who are married: 42 weddings celebrated with a civil ceremony and 6 those with religious rite. Only one civil union celebrated in May (there were 3 in total in 2019, including 1 in the first half). In the first half of the year, the number of families went from 42,902 at the end of the year to 42,919 at the end of June (+17). The tendency for the average number of members to decline steadily fell to 2.24 people per family (in 1974 it was 3.46 on average).
