She is the project leader for the closure of Skäggetorpsskolan

– It was really time. I have been chairman of the Teachers’ Association in Linköping for 18 years and feel that I need to develop, says Sandra Wahlström.

What will be the biggest challenge?

– To get everything together, she says with a laugh.

“A lot of preparation for it to bear fruit”

Responsible school politician Erik Östman (M) describes that Wahlström’s task will be to coordinate different parts of the municipality, not only schools but also social services, police and associations.

– It takes an enormous amount of preparation. Partly at the receiving schools, what kind of needs do the students who come have, and partly that you do the right things at Skäggetorpsskolan in the coming school year, so that this will bear fruit, says Östman.

SEK 25,000 extra for teachers who stay

A concrete measure from the municipality is that the teachers who stay at Skäggetorpsskolan receive a bonus of SEK 25,000 when the last school year is over. Something Sandra Wahlström thinks is important.

– It shows that the teachers get a recognition from the municipality. There was an early tendency for teachers to want to change jobs after the closure decision came, but the hope is now that they will remain, says Wahlström.
