Seven young hikers killed in Panama – survivors report attack by two gunmen – Abroad

According to police, one person has been arrested in connection with the case.

Seven young adults were found killed over the weekend near Lake Gatun, about 80 miles from Panama City, Panama, BBC says. There were signs of torture in the victims. They are suspected of being shot.

The victims were reportedly local.

The victims are said to have been part of a larger group that included 13 or 14 young adults. Survivors have reported that two armed men had attacked the gang.

The motive for the attack is still unclear. Police have arrested one person in connection with the case.

Gatun is an artificial lake that was formed when the Gatun Dam was completed on the Chagres River in 1913. The lake forms a large part of the Panama Canal.
