Captagon, a psychostimulant based on amphetamine so powerful that it can be used by guerrillas is terrorists on the battlefield to defeat fear, so much so that he even earned the nickname of “ISIS drug”. This is what the Guardia di Finanza of Naples managed to find in three containers arrived at port of Salerno, inside paper cylinders for industrial use and machinery built in such a way as to prevent scanners from identifying the content: 14 tons, the equivalent of 84 million tablets, for a commercial value of over a billion euros. A maxi kidnapping, “the largest in the world”, of drugs arriving directly from Syria, where jihadist groups operating in some areas of the country since 2011 have started the production of this drug in clandestine laboratories, both to use it on their own men and to export it to Europe and worldwide and to finance jihad.

In the note released by Yellow flames it is pointed out that the captagon, this is the commercial name of the product, is sold throughout the Middle East and is widespread both among fighters to inhibit fear and pain and among civilians because it does not make fatigue felt. Initially produced mainly in Lebanon and widespread in Saudi Arabia in the 90s, this amazing substance found notoriety with the advent of the Islamic state: it is precisely captagon tablets, for example, that were ingested by the terrorists who launched the attack on 13 November 2015 Bataclan, where 130 people were killed, in addition to the 7 bombers.

Numerous international institutions and agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration American (Goddess), have ascertained over the years that the militants in black make extensive use of it in all the territories over which they exercise influence and thus control the drug dealing. Two weeks ago, always in the port of Salerno, the specialists of the Gico of Naples had intercepted a container with a load containing 2,800 kg of hashish and 190 kg of amphetamine with the exact same symbol: captagon.

What investigators are trying to understand is with which contacts and support Middle Eastern criminals have managed to enter the European market by going from Campania. The large amount seized suggests that those responsible could operate on behalf of a “Cartel” of the Camorra clan capable of marketing substances internationally.

According to the investigators of the Yellow Flames and the investigators of the Naples prosecutor, who coordinated the operation, it is likely that a “consortium” of criminal groups is involved, both for the total value of shipments and for distribution on the reference markets , given that 84 million tablets can satisfy a European market. It is not excluded that after the stop imposed by the lockdown many traffickers, even in the consortium, may have turned to Syria, whose production, however, does not seem to have slowed down.
