A police officer in Suriname from the Brownsweg office in Brokopondo has tested positive for COVID-19.
Waterkant learns that the agent felt unwell at work on Saturday and was sent home. On Sunday morning he reported with COVID-19 symptoms to the outpatient clinic of Brownsweg where a swap was taken from him. Hours later, the test result showed that the police officer is infected with the dreaded virus.
The law enforcement officer was immediately quarantined at the clinic. All other agents working at this station have been quarantined as a precaution, pending further instructions from the Surinamese health authorities.
The agency has since been thoroughly disinfected. It is not yet known how the agent was infected.
