PACE will not go to the elections in Belarus, despite the invitation – RT in Russian

PACE, despite the invitation of the Belarusian side, will not send observers to the upcoming August 9 presidential elections in Belarus.

“After the invitation made by the Parliament of Belarus to PACE on July 15 to send a delegation to observe the presidential elections on August 9 in Belarus, PACE President Rick Daems said that given the limited time before the elections, the absence of our usual partner organizations, in particular the ODIHR, is constantly changing the health situation associated with COVID-19, and the resulting restrictions on the travel of members, it is not possible for the Assembly to send a delegation on this occasion, “RIA Novosti quoted the organization’s press service as saying.

Earlier, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly announced that due to the epidemiological situation it would not be able to send its observers to the presidential elections in Belarus in August 2020.

The CEC of Belarus called the current election campaign in the country the most difficult.
