Yankbelich will become the first ultra-Orthodox minister to serve as a member of the committee for the appointment of judges, and will serve alongside MKs Israel Eichler and Meirav Michaeli, as well as Minister Yaakov Avitan of Shas, who will chair the committee.
In addition, the committee consists of the Chief Rabbis of Rishon LeZion, Rabbi Yosef, and the Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Yaakov Zamir, and Rabbi Avraham Schindler, who were elected representatives of the Great Rabbinical Court in the Committee for the Selection of Judges.
The work of assembling the committee has not yet been completed, with the Bar Association and the Rabbinical Claims Bureau also scheduled to send representatives to the committee – which is not expected to convene in the coming year due to a lack of available standards for daycare shifts.
Surprisingly, all members of the government approved the election of Minister Omar Yankelevich from a white brush, including the ultra-Orthodox ministers. In the end of the hearing, Yankelevich said: “I thank you for the trust placed in me. The committee for appointing judges is a body of great importance. I will fulfill the role of committee member with dedication, modesty and seriousness.”
