Two statuettes, a long career in Hollywood, the relationship of love and hate with the actress sister Joan Fontaine and two weddings. Some curiosities about Melania from «Gone with the Wind»

of Paola Caruso

Many remember her as the sweet Melania of “Gone with the Wind”, but it was not thanks to that 1939 film that was consecrated in the Olympus of Hollywood stars. L’actress Olivia de Havilland (born in Tokyo on July 1, 1916) she turns 104 and is the longest-lived Oscar winner, a record she shared with Kirk Douglas (as a male interpreter) who died at the age of 103 in February 2020. In his long career going on until the 1980s, he won two statuettes, in 1947 (“To each his own destiny”) and in 1950 (“The heiress”). Now, the 104 candles are blown out in Paris, where she moved in the 1950s for the sake of her second husband, the journalist Pierre Galante from whom she divorced in 1979 and with whom she maintained good relations until his death, for the love of daughter Gisèle (also a journalist).
