Along with the advanced contacts for the appointment of Prof. Gabi Barbash, former director general of the Ministry of Health, to the position of corona project and the debate between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Health Minister Yuli Edelstein over the appointment, this morning (Monday) Nir Dvori announces the name of a new candidate: Mossad chief Yossi Cohen.
“The name of the head of the Mossad is now rising and thrown around the prime minister as a project manager,” Dvori revealed in the “Morning News”.
Cohen was involved in dealing with the corona crisis during the first wave, mainly around equipping medical equipment and respirators: “Cohen has already done that, he brought one of his division heads, H., who managed the event,” Dvori recalled, but this time it was a comprehensive management proposal. Of the crisis: “It could be something that will take shape in the coming days. It is not inconceivable that such a proposal will be put to the head of the head of the Mossad, he will have to seriously consider it.”
In recent days, disagreements have emerged between the prime minister and the health minister over the appointment to the position of project manager who will manage the corona crisis. The prime minister supports the appointment of Barbash to the post, while Edelstein prefers to appoint former general Amir Abulafia. Initially, the position was offered to Maj. Gen. Roni Noma, who refused the position for fear that he would not receive the appropriate powers. Moshe Bar Siman Tov also accepted an offer and refused it.
“Netanyahu prefers Prof. Barbash, he is considered one of the most talented directors in the public health system ever,” Yoav Even explained last night in the main edition, “He successfully managed Ichilov, also the Ministry of Health, medical and administrative authority, so Netanyahu prefers him. The Minister of Health actually prefers Maj. Gen. Amir Abulafia, he is perceived as an executive factor that is more suitable for this time, perhaps also perceived as not opening a path bypassing the Minister of Health directly to the Prime Minister as was the case with Bar Siman Tov during Litzman’s office. “Both Prof. Barbash and General Abulafia are both prominent candidates and both have an equal chance.”
