MK Miki Zohar to Corona Committee Chairman Shasha-Bitton: “You have been fired”

Coalition chairman Miki Zohar announced today (Tuesday) to the chairman of the Corona committee, MK Yifat Shasha Bitton, that in light of her conduct within the coalition discipline and her absence from plenary votes, it was decided to remove her from her position.

According to Knesset rules, in order to remove a committee chairman, the request must be forwarded to the Knesset committee for approval. It is unclear whether Knesset committee chairman Eitan Ginzburg (blue and white) will respond to Zohar’s request to convene the committee to discuss dismissal. . It should be noted that the Knesset Rules of Procedure do not speak at all of dismissal but of the suspension of a committee chairman, a step that is very unusual and unusual in the Knesset.

After Likud faction members disappeared last week from voting on the conversion law and after a difficult conversation at a Likud faction meeting yesterday, Likud faction chairman Miki Zohar announced today the sanctions he is imposing on ministers and MKs who have disappeared from the plenum. Zohar’s decision was made in coordination with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who decided to back up Zohar’s moves in order to draw a line in the Likud.

The Minister of Internal Security, Amir Ohana, who voted in favor of the bill banning conversion therapies, was given two ministerial posts in the plenum. Minister Eli Cohen was given three shifts. Also, on Ministers Katz, Galant and Akunis, Zohar imposed one more shift.

Additional MKs such as Uzi Dayan, Sharan Hashakel, Shlomo Qarai and Michal Shir were sentenced to not be able to raise bills in the Ministerial Committee for Legislation until the end of the summer session.

About two weeks ago, Zohar threatened to fire Shasha Bitton because she did not obey the Likud’s line regarding the opening of the conversation pools and gyms.

As stated, at the beginning of the Likud faction’s meeting yesterday, Zohar expressed displeasure with the conduct of the party’s Knesset members. “We did not function properly and a lot of votes people were missing,” he said. Netanyahu also criticized the ministers and clarified: “We need coalition discipline. From the moment a decision is made – the coalition must respect it. It is impossible for ministers and MKs to judge themselves. I say this to our partners, but also at home. ”

In response to the punishments, MK Shlomo Qarai from the Likud said: “Zohar is acting in a false and manipulative manner to promote the ‘Net Mickey Zohar’ program. The three captains: the power, the money and the honor, which he is trying to achieve, contrary to the Likud’s values, make him think. A little C – modesty – will not hurt him. He divides the Likud faction, hurts her and the prime minister and has to go home now. He should harm my activities. ”
