A 6-year-old girl of Indian nationality, dispersed in the woods between Trieste and Slovenia and sought after by 10 am this morning by both Italian and former Yugoslavia rescuers. The girl was part of a group of migrants who were attempting to enter Italy through a path on the Karst. According to an initial reconstruction of the incident, a Slovenian police patrol arrested a group of people – a dozen in all – during a control operation against illegal immigration. At the sight of the men in uniform and armed, the little girl, who was with her parents, would have run away frightened, losing her tracks. The disappearance area is between San Servolo and Prebenico, right across the border between the two states. In her escape, the little girl may have entered Italian territory, so the searches have also been activated by the Trieste authorities.
