Low transfer fee Veltman may be disappointing: ‘We may not get anything’

Ajax awarded Joël Veltman a transfer to Brighton & Hove Albion, but the low transfer fee may be a disappointment for VV IJmuiden. The former amateur club of the 28-year-old defender hopes to have some left over from the deal.

According to the local The Argus Brighton pays one million euros for Veltman. “We still have to find out exactly what this means for us. I have read that the transfer fee was low,” Michel Spierenburg, chairman of VV IJmuiden, told NH. “It may just be that we don’t get anything, but maybe we still get a certain percentage of something. That is certainly very welcome in these times. I think that last year – with our nine hundred members – we will be between seventy and ninety thousand euros went wrong. ”
VV IJmuiden is proud of the Orange international, whose father can still be found regularly at the association. Veltman played for the amateur association between 1999 and 2001, before he left for Ajax. “That is funny, he stood out, but it was not an exceptional talent,” says Spierenburg. “But his combination of talent and mentality has been the deciding factor.”
“Of course you saw that at Ajax too”, the chairman continues. “He was quite maligned by certain journalists, but every trainer chose him unconditionally. Whether it was Erik ten Hag, Frank de Boer or Peter Bosz; he was always in the base. People like that have a little more perspective on than others, I guess. “
