Croatian specialist Niko Kovacs commented on his appointment as head coach of the French Ligue 1 club “Monaco”.
“This is a large-scale project, a serious challenge, and we like it. Together with Paul Mitchell and Oleg Petrov, as well as with all the players, we will give our best 100 percent. We can’t wait to get to work and hopefully a bright future awaits us. I am glad to start a new stage in a new country. This is already the fourth country on my career path. I like Monaco, and I think this is the right place and the right project for me, ”the club’s press service quotes Kovacs as saying.
He also expressed the hope that former team coach Robert Moreno will be able to quickly find a new job.
“It’s always unpleasant when someone has to leave the club. I hope Moreno can find a new club soon. I wish him, his staff and family all the best in the future, ”added the specialist.
Kovacs coached Bayern Munich from summer 2018 to November 2019. Under his leadership, the Munich team won the championship, Cup and Super Cup of Germany.
In the last season of Ligue 1, which was completed ahead of schedule after 28 rounds, the Monegasques took ninth place with 40 points.
Earlier it was reported that Kovacs was not a priority option for Monaco after the dismissal of Robert Moreno.
