The 82-year-old sports veteran left home for mushrooms a few days ago and has never returned.
“The departure of Alexander Vladimirovich is a grievous irreparable loss. A fond memory of the great fighter, a man with a capital letter. I deeply grieve for his family, “the website of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) quotes Karelin as saying.
In 2017, Karelin called Ivanitsky “a reading teacher, a pioneer in national sports broadcasting, an example of amazing restraint, peremptory professionalism, outstanding erudition.”
Ivanitsky won gold at the 1964 Olympics, was a multiple world champion.
Earlier it was reported that the FSBR would provide assistance to the family of the deceased Ivanitsky.
