The NHC has also announced that the cyclone will race across (or along) the islands on Sunday and during the night from Sunday to Monday with wind speeds of 140 kilometers per hour. High and potentially destructive waves, heavy rainfall and dangerous storm surges are predicted.
Relief supplies have been delivered to Maui Island in preparation for the storm. The authorities urged residents to stay at home and avoid the streets as much as possible. The Red Cross in Hawaii said it was preparing for the hurricane.
