Christian Horner finds it unjustified that Alexander Albon gets a lot of criticism. The Red Bull Racing team boss is content with the performance of Max Verstappen’s teammate.
“I am very satisfied with Albon,” Horner told Tuesday Motorsport. “He did great in Hungary.”
Albon rode to fifth place at the Hungaroring after qualifying only thirteenth. That poor qualification led to outraged reactions. For example, Williams driver George Russell said, “They make Albon look like an idiot, but he’s not.”
Horner did have an explanation for Albon’s difficult performance in qualifying. “We have changed a lot on the car during the weekend in search of the right setting. If you have less experience, it is more difficult to deal with it.”
‘Speed Albon comparable to Verstappen’
“But in the race Albon managed to find a good rhythm, his pace was very good. His speed was comparable to that of Verstappen”, praised Horner. The Limburger drove from seventh to second place in Hungary.
Albon started the season with a dropout in Austria, where he seemed on his way to his first podium place until a touch with Lewis Hamilton. In the second race in Austria, the Thai equaled the best performance in his career with a fourth place.
The next race will be held on August 2 at Silverstone.
