France, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe resigns

The French prime minister Edouard Philippe he presented the resignation of his government to the president Emmanuel Macron, who accepted them. In a note fromEliseo it is stressed that Philippe, together with the members of his government, will ensure the performance of their functions until appointment of the new government.

The rumors about his resignationin reality, they had chased each other in the past few weeks. On Thursday evening, in an interview with the local press, President Macron had in fact outlined the strategy for the last two years of his term and talked about a new team, also stressing that the return after the summer will be very hard, we must prepare. For the reshuffle, once Philippe’s resignation is accepted, Macron has two possibilities: appoint a new prime minister (in the French press, in recent months, several hypotheses have circulated about who could be his successor) or entrust the charge again to Philippe himself, for with a new government team.

Philippe’s decision comes after his victory in the municipal elections, where he was elected mayor of Le Havre with 58.8% of the votes in the second round. Not the first time: he was already the first citizen of the city from 2010 to 2017 when, in fact, he was appointed prime minister by Macron.
