A four-year-old boy drowned on Tuesday afternoon in the Zegerplas in Alphen aan den Rijn.
Various emergency services, including a trauma helicopter, were on site. Unfortunately, the life-saving actions were no longer of any use.
When the emergency services arrived on the spot, bystanders had already started resuscitating the boy. After that, the boy was transported to the hospital, where he died. The police confirmed that.
After the incident, all bystanders were asked to leave the beach.
The police are trying to find out the exact cause of how the boy got into the water.
