Rain could have been an ally of the Ferrari, but it wasn’t. The SF-1000 also in the wet in qualifying proved to be a nervous car in the wise hands of Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel. The Monegasque has favored the set-up for the race and will start 14th due to the exclusion at the end of Q2 with the eleventh time just behind Sebastian Vettel, a disappointment to which has been added the penalty of three positions on the starting grid for hindering Daniil Kvyat during qualifying. Tenth and 14th starting positions therefore for the Ferrari drivers, who will have to look for the comeback with an unchecked SF-1000.

GP Stiria 2020 | Three penalty positions for Charles Leclerc

Mattia Binotto, team principal of Cavallino, did not hide the disappointment: “A really disappointing day. We have to accept the stopwatch verdict that never lies. In two qualifications on the same track, even in different conditions we have never been competitive, not only against those who in the past few years had been our direct opponents but also with others who, until yesterday, were constantly behind us. We made a lot of efforts to anticipate a series of updates to the car but the results have not been seen on the track. We have to understand why and work to change a state of affairs that is not up to a team bearing the Ferrari name. No emotional reactions but we cannot hide reality from us ”.
