New dramatic chapter for Ferrari: Leclerc spurs Vettel in the start, and both riders of the Reds immediately leave the scene aggravating the Maranello crisis.
The Cavallino disaster arrives a few curves after the start: Leclerc started fourteenth dabbed his team mate Vettel. The German pilot, with the wing spoiled, returns to the pits and retires, while the Monegasque changes the front wing but is forced to raise the white flag after a few laps.
Filed the sad red bracket (here the riders’ reactions), in front Lewis Hamilton makes the rhythm, while Verstappen finds himself tight in the grip of the two Mercedes. The world champion, seared from last week’s fourth place, places a series of fast laps to take advantage of the pursuers.
After the tour of pit stop, Hamilton remains ahead of Verstappen, while Bottas delays the return to the pits with the hope of staying ahead of him after changing tires. After the break, however, he falls behind the Dutch driver’s Red Bull exhausts.
Abyssal detachments for all others: Albon is fourth, followed by Ricciardo’s Renault, Stroll and Perez’s two Racing Points (fighting each other) and Sainz’s McLaren.
Hamilton calmly manages his leadership, with a reassuring margin on Verstappen. Bottas, who complains about a problem with his car, is third with a wide margin on Albon, who is instead threatened by a wild Perez.
In the last few laps the duel for the second position between Verstappen and Bottas: the Red Bull driver endures a lap, then has to surrender to the superiority of Mercedes.
