The technical preparations are currently being made in all stadiums of Eredivisie clubs to start using the offside technology, according to the KNVB. To implement the technology, cameras are placed at the edge of the penalty area. FOX Sports only used these camera positions in the stadiums of Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV.
“In the VAR protocol of the International Rule Commission IFAB, the main message that the VAR intervenes is only when the referee’s decision is clearly wrong. This basic principle also applies when, thanks to the offside lines, it becomes clear that an error has been made. If, despite the offside lines, there is doubt about a decision taken, the VAR will not intervene, “reports the Dutch Football Association.
The aim is to start with the offside technology at the start of the competition.
The software used for the offside technology has been developed by the technology company Hawk-Eye and is applied in the same way in the Champions League. Last season, the technology in the Premier League caused a lot of commotion. For example, goals were rejected because players with a certain part of the body would have been offside by a millimeter, which led to outrage among players, trainers and supporters.
The league starts on September 12 with the game FC Utrecht – AZ.
