English football mourns the football icon

English football cries the disappearance of a myth: a former footballer and coach who signed many legendary pages of the sport. At the age of 85 he died of natural causes Jack Charlton: death who arrived last night and in his home in Northumberland, a county located in northeastern England. Bobby’s brother, with whom he did not have an idyllic relationship, and unsurpassed defender (he was nicknamed ‘The Giraffe’ for his height) Jack Charlton linked his name to that of the English national team with which he won the World Cup in 1966 at home.

As a player he obviously made his mark in Leeds too: a lineup he became a flag after winning the championship in 1968/69 and the FA Cup in 1972. Hanging up his boots, Jack Charlton then went on the bench where he led Middlesbrough, Sheffield, Newcastle and above all the National of the Republic of Ireland. With the ‘boys in green’ he managed to qualify for the 1990 and 1994 World Cup and the 1998 European Championship, goals that allowed him to withdraw the honorary Irish citizenship, before retiring from ‘trained’ football at the age of 60.

The condolences of the Irish federation

Among the first to express the pain and condolence for the death of Jack Charlton, the executives of Irish federation who, through a post published on Twitter, greeted him for the last time with words of affection: “FAI is deeply saddened by the news of Jack Charlton’s death, the manager who changed Irish football forever“.

In addition to being a friend of many, he was a very beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather – said the family instead – We cannot express how much we are proud of the extraordinary life it has led and the pleasure it has brought to so many people from all walks of life and in different countries. He was an absolutely honest, kind, nice and genuine man who always had time for people. His loss will leave a huge hole in all our lives but we are grateful for leaving us a life of happy memories“.
