“The idea was actually born out of necessity,” says organizer Tony Jongkind. “Due to the corona crisis, air traffic was virtually silent and we had to look for alternatives for our company.”
Sound via the radio
Part of the site is rented to a gym and the A4 drive-inn cinema has now been added. Entirely in the American fifties style, girls with colorful clothes are walking around and there are a number of shiny American cars. They eat popcorn and drink cola from large cups. ‘An opening with Grease must of course be exactly as it should be,’ says Jongkind.
The sound of the film does not blare out of the boxes but can be searched via FM 96.0. ‘We have requested a frequency from the Media Commission and they have promised this frequency for a month. We are already working on applying for the following month, because we want to continue with this, ‘says Jongkind.
‘Our day can’t go wrong’
Visitors are enthusiastic about the drive-in cinema. A couple is in a beautiful oldtimer with a transistor radio within reach. “This is our time, Grease, have a nice swoon with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, our day can’t go wrong.”
