North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has declared a state of emergency on suspicion of illegally infiltrating a corona patient from the south this month, according to an official media report in the country. If this is true, it will be the first officially verified patient in the country to deny for months claims of an outbreak of the virus in its territory.
According to the report, Kim declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew on the border town of Xong. He said it was a “critical situation in which the nasty virus could enter our country,” according to North Korean news agency KCNA.
According to the report, the man suspected of being blue is a defector who fled to South Korea three years ago, and is now returning to the north. Authorities estimate the man entered state territory on July 19. The report did not say whether the man had been tested for corona, but said that “some incomplete results were found as part of several medical tests to examine the man’s airways and blood.”
Thousands of corona diagnostic tests were transferred to North Korea from Russia and other countries, and the regime declared a strict border closure.
