, for the work Felanitx, an introspective and emotional tribute to the municipality where the author grew up and has returned in the summer as an adult. The award, one of the most prestigious poetry in the Catalan language, is endowed with 8,530 euros, a sculpture by Sant Pepgate from Cod Cod and the publication of the work by Edicions 62, next fall.
Felanitx It is a work with two parts: the first, made up of poems of about 450 verses, are dedicated to this Majorcan town where the author admits that he has no property. “I am from Palma and I do not have a house in Felanitx, but with these verses I have wanted to appropriate this place so that I can explain it to my children and to my wife and then to the others.” The second part, made up of 21 short poems, complement the portrait of a man who recognizes himself “in saying himself and in the desire that prompts him to say”, according to Gomila.
The Deputy Mayor for Culture of Sant Cugat del Vallès, Esther Madrona, accompanied by the editor of Edicions 62 and president of the jury of the prize, Jordi Cornudella, and the writer, Prize of Honor of Catalan Literature and member of the jury, Marta Pessarrodona they have been in charge of presenting the winner in an act at the city’s monastery.
For the jury, the result is a work that stands out for “the lyrical intensity of Felanitx’s evocation, the sustained interest in short poems and the emotional tension that links the whole ensemble from one point to the other.” Cornudella has highlighted that 49 originals have been presented in this edition and that Gomila’s work “was unanimously liked, since it was not grandiose and yes very measured, it invited to enter.”
Author of several poetry books, novels and essays and cultural collaborator in this newspaper, Gomila acknowledges that despite twenty years as a journalist, when writing poetry “the only relationship I have with the trade is that I do everything On the contrary, since I take my time and enjoy it ”, he pointed out.
Unlike other books, in Felanitx, Gomila has gone “from being an extroverted author, since he made descriptions of places, to being more introspective. It is not an autobiography, but the personal filter is more evident. The process has gone from you / you to me ”. With great humor, Gomila has pointed out that he will feel totally linked to Felanitx when in the municipality’s magazine he is treated as “a felanitxer poet”. It will be, he says, his total prize.
