‘Ajax gets a low transfer fee, but stipulates a resale percentage’

Ajax has sold Joël Veltman to Brighton & Hove Albion for a remarkably low transfer fee, but has managed to negotiate a resale percentage. The club will receive an extra amount if the English club resells it.

Ajax watcher Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf knows that. “The compensation they receive for Veltman is minimal,” says Verweij in the studio of De Telegraaf. “That has been very well negotiated by his agent Michael Jansen, but it is also a gesture by Ajax. Ajax wants to treat players who are very loyal well. Brighton only had to transfer one million euros. Ajax gets a percentage from the resale.”

Brighton surprised on Wednesday with the recruitment of Veltman. The defender has worn the Ajax shirt for nineteen seasons. He wanted to leave last year, but that is what his trainer Erik Ten Hag and director of player policy Marc Overmars lie down for. Veltman signed with Brighton until the summer of 2023.
