AC Cobra is back: one version will be electric

The oldest English manufacturer puts its iconic model back on the market: together with the zero-emission model, there will be the one with the 2.3-liter Ford

The choice of electric propulsion is an increasingly popular solution for returning cars from the past to the market. So the new edition of the AC Cobra – once Shelby Cobra – will return to new life (also) thanks to a zero emissions version. It will be called AC Cobra Series 1 electric, made in the limited production of 58 specimens (the number 58 celebrates the years that have passed since the production of the first Cobra, dated 1962) which will have a price of 152,700 euros plus transport costs, with deliveries which will start in the last quarter of 2020. The chassis will be practically identical to the original AC Cobra, except for some adaptations due to the electric transmission and the location of the battery. The steering and brakes have also been updated to comply with the 2020 safety standards. The bodywork will instead be in composite material (the total weight is 1,250 kg), available in four different colors: blue, black, white and green.

If the external lines are substantially unchanged, it is the mechanical component that is revolutionized. Instead of the Ford V8, the new AC Cobra now features an electric unit with 312 horsepower and 250 Nm of engine torque, which can reach 500 meters. A 54 kWh battery pack takes care of feeding the system. Just enough to travel just over 200 km. As for performance, the only data declared is that of shooting from 0 to 100 km / h: 6.7 seconds. Regarding the AC Cobra 140 Charter Edition, both aesthetically and technically it is identical to the battery variant, but instead of the electric motor we find a 2.3 liter 350 HP engine (the same used on the latest Ford Mustang) and 440 Nm of torque. It will be available in a wider range of colors and there will be a special launch version. Also in this case, the only known performance is the acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 6 seconds. Deliveries will begin in the last quarter of 2020 at a price of 94 thousand euros.
