After completing a double win, and not stumbling a single game since returning from the Corona (11 games, 11 wins) – Bayern Munich has made its way to the next task: the Champions League. In eight days, the Bavarians will meet Chelsea in the quarter-final rematch (after 0: 3 in the first game in London) and Hansi Flick’s team is making the final preparations.

Today (Friday), the new doubles player defeated Marseille 0: 1 in the general rehearsal game towards the real thing. Serge Gnabry (who scored a double in the previous Champions League game, somewhere in March) scored the winning goal, from David Alaba’s header after 19 minutes. Despite the seemingly narrow victory, Bayern dominated the game and were significantly better than the French – holding the ball more, kicking 13 times for goal and five for frame. The French, who in turn are preparing for the start of the new season in France in less than a month, have failed to be a real rival to the German Empire.

More good news for Hansi Flick came from the direction of Nicklas Zola: The German stopper returned after a 285-day absence due to injury, and played 29 minutes after replacing Jerome Boateng. Next Saturday, Chelsea will reach the Allianz Arena – but all indications are that Bayern will also be able to overcome this hurdle, on the way (perhaps) to another Champions League win, and an unforgettable treble.
