In June it is decided how to start the next school year
During the scrutiny phase, the teachers are called to carefully evaluate the steps of the initial planning, of the remodulation of March in conjunction with the suspension of teaching activities in the presence and the way in which the activities were carried out.
In the evaluation ordinance, the Ministry proposes two models
- Learning integration plan
- Individualized learning plan
Individualized learning plan
For pupils admitted to the next class – except in the transition to the first class of the first grade secondary school or to the first class of the second grade secondary school – in the presence of assessments of less than six tenths, pursuant to the provisions of article 2 , paragraph 2 of the Legislative Decree, the co-owners of the class or the class council prepare an individualized learning plan in which
are indicated for each discipline
- the learning objectives to be achieved, in order to continue the learning process in the next class,
- as well as specific strategies for improving learning levels.
The individualized learning plan is attached to the final evaluation document.
Learning integration plan
The co-owners of the class or the class council also identify the teaching activities that may not have been carried out with respect to the plans at the beginning of the year and the related learning objectives and insert them in a new design aimed at defining a learning integration plan.
Educational activities resume on 1st September 2020
According to the provisions of the School Decree – the last move to the Chamber is awaited – the activities relating to both the integration plan of learning and the individualized learning plan constitute ordinary teaching activities and start from 1 September 2020.
This step is causing havoc in schools, due to the request by some school managers to exclude the last week of August from their vacation plan.
In summary, the return could be brought forward to 24 August. And if in some schools this is not new compared to what has already been done in previous years to allow debt recovery by August 31, in many others it would be new. Nothing has been specified so far by the Ministry.
There will be no debt recovery exams
The final assessment of the 2019/20 school year may involve admitting the student to the next class with one or more insufficiencies but in the second grade secondary school there will be no debt recovery exams.
The activities related to the individualized learning plan and the recovery of any learning from the programming of the previous year, although starting on September 1st, do not necessarily end in the first weeks of lessons.
The assessment ordinance specifies that these activities integrate, where necessary the first quarter or four months and in any case continue, if necessary, for the entire duration of the school year 2020/2021.
Who will lecture
The ordinance does not specify that the teaching activity will be carried out by the teacher who drafted the learning plan.
The activities will involve the staff of autonomy, adopting each
form of didactic and organizational flexibility and by making project initiatives converge on priority support for learning.
The individual schools will therefore have to find the most appropriate ways to carry out the activities.
In secondary school, students admitted to the next class with insufficiencies will be awarded a credit of 6 points, regardless of the number of insufficiencies and final assessments of other disciplines.
This credit may be increased at the end of the 2020/21 school year, due to the improvements achieved with the individualized learning plan.
Pupils promoted with enough
Even pupils who do not report insufficiencies in the final report of the 2019/20 school year will be able to increase their final credit at the end of the 2020/21 school year. In this case the criteria will be defined by the individual teaching colleges.
The Ministry, with a note dated May 28, 2020, clarified
Since the 2019/20 school year, since the lessons conclude with distance learning, it is to be considered an “open” and improvable assessment, also in order to enhance deserving students as much as possible.
