Viruses, outbreaks in Italy, case in Rome. The ISS report cards on the regions: Lombardy at the limit

The epidemic from COVID-19 is currently under control in the country, but active outbreaks remain almost everywhere and for this the invitation of the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza it is to keep our guard up, because “we are on the right path”, but “caution and graduality are still needed”. The update of the situation is contained in the third weekly monitoring report released yesterday morning by the control room of the Ministry of Health and the Higher Institute of Health, which takes stock of the trend region by region.

Coronavirus, monitoring regions: Rt remains below 1 but still many active outbreaks Region by Region

Phase 3 on the beach: distance of one meter even in the water. The mayors: «Impossible checks»

At the antipodes Basilicata which can rightly boast of being the first Covid-free region having an Rt index of zero and Lombardy which, despite the improvement, still reaches the value of 0.91, with a slight increase compared to 0.75 of the last week.

There are therefore no more critical situations, but the various active clusters remain under observation, so much so that the experts in the note accompanying the report spoke of the situation “epidemiologically fluid in many Italian regions”. How fluid and where the outbreaks nest, however, is not known, given that after repeated requests to the Ministry of Health and the ISS, no one wanted to give the framework mandatory provided by each region, because provided for by the decree that established the monitoring. These are public data which, however, are not provided to the citizen, and which make the whole operation nebulous. Suffice it to say that in no region does the RT, i.e. the replication index, exceed the value of 1. However, one must be cautious in optimism, aware that the report is based on data from the days between 25 and 31 May and therefore, given the time necessary for the development of the symptoms after the infection and those of the subsequent diagnosis “most cases reported in this week probably contracted the infection 2-3 weeks before, that is during the first reopening phase between 4 and May 18th ». Which brings us back to the question of outbreaks: where does the infection spread?

From the monitoring, which the technicians continue to explain not to consider a report card, the data are roughly consistent with what emerges from the Civil Protection bulletins every day: in the north of Trento and Bolzano the index is 0.86; in Campania the index is 0.58, equal to that of Piedmont and similar to that of Veneto (0.61). The RT was higher in Tuscany (0.72), Lazio (0.75), Puglia (0.78); Calabria (0.37), Sardinia (0.14), but it should be emphasized that the values of Valle d’Aosta (0.47) and Molise (0.59) have also improved, which had caused concern for a small outbreak in the weeks past. «In some regional realities, a number of new cases reported every week are high, even if decreasing. This should call for caution as it indicates that in some parts of the country the circulation of Sars-CoV-2 is still relevant “reads the note to the report, in that” relevant “adjective so indeterminate as to appear generic, the key that is missing to trace the complete picture. Lazio, for example, has informed with transparency of the new cluster of infections that has developed in Rome in the last few days and it is not clear why one should not know what is happening in all the other regions.

A fluid map that certainly leads to positive thinking, but the underground epidemic continues to require strict compliance with the measures necessary to reduce the risk of transmission such as individual hygiene and physical spacing, as the technicians reiterated that it is necessary maintain high “the resilience of local services to continue to promote awareness and compliance of the population, carry out active research and diagnostic assessment of potential cases, the isolation of confirmed cases, the quarantine of their close contacts”.

In short, it is clear that the positive trend is still the good harvest of the lockdown weeks. Objectively, however, the number of cases is decreasing and there are no reports of stress on the health system, nor out of control outbreaks.
