The building had been occupied by militants of the neo-fascist organization in 2003 and some families are also living there in a housing emergency. The building belongs to theState Property Agency but it has been handed over for government use to the Ministry of Education since 1963. The controversy over employment has recurred cyclically without concrete initiatives being taken so far.
The clash with Virginia Raggi
When on 6 August 2019 the mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi, had ordered the removal of the word “Casapound” from the facade of the building, the same militants had taken steps to remove it, anticipating the police. In its place a banner was posted with the words “This is the problem of Rome”. Even then Raggi had promised that it was only the beginning. “Finally something is moving. Let’s restore legality,” is the comment from the mayor on Twitter.
The drop that made the vase overflow was perhaps the harsh dispute received by Raggi on 18 May in Ostia from Luca Marsella, leader of the movement in the coastal area and municipal councilor, who was succeeded today by a complaint from the mayor.
The eviction of the Air Force building occupied a few days ago was also ordered today Host by Casapound militants. This was announced by the Undersecretary of Defense, Giulio Calvisi, responding to the Defense Commission during the question time, to Alberto Pagani (Pd) and Luca Frusone (M5s).
