San Fele: the “Covid-free oasis” appeals to the American press, first on the Washington Post

The United States of America is in the midst of the Coronavirus emergency, and San Fele, the small Lucanian mountain town is a dream. A dream that lands on the front page of the Washington Post to satisfy readers’ desire for normality and offer a message of hope. Because as the clear says, in this land four hours south of Rome, “in a place where no one has turned out to be positive or has fallen ill” life seems to be able to do without even many precautions, because, as the Mayor Donato Sperduto, “everyone knows everyone, our fear is those who come from outside”.
And the American newspaper celebrates the recipe that led this small Lucanian community to be an oasis out of the world and from its afflictions for the pandemic, a bit like a small New Zealand: «With a combination of geographical isolation, initial precautions and good luck, the city of San Fele has never even had a coronavirus curve to flatten ». An oasis, but with a high guard: the fear that the infection will come, the visitors who previously arrived on the weekend welcomed with joy and who today are scarce and cause for concern. In San Fele there is no Covid, fear yes. But this is already enough to envy and give hope to the USA.
