President Bonaccini receives the outgoing Consul General of the United States of America, Benjamin Wohlauer – Emilia-Romagna Region


The President of the Region, Stefano Bonaccini, met the Consul General of the United States today in Bologna, Benjamin Wohlauer, for an institutional greeting on the occasion of the conclusion of the three-year term in Florence. The Consul was accompanied by the political economic adviser, Michele Comelli.

“I thank the consul on behalf of the whole regional council – said President Bonaccini – for his constant collaboration and for the work done in these three years of stay in Italy. It has been a very positive experience that has allowed our institutions to better promote the commercial and cultural relations between our two countries. A profitable exchange between Emilia-Romagna Region and the American Consulate which strengthens the strong bond that already unites Italy and the United States “.

In during the meeting between Bonaccini and Wohlauer – in addition to highlighting the collaboration on many strategic projects – there was a wide exchange of views on current issues with particular attention to the management of the health emergency in Emilia-Romagna defined by the console as “winning and forward-looking” , until the next American elections in November.

Wohlauer was the forty-fourth US consul general in Florence, with jurisdiction over Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna – with the exception of the provinces of Parma and Piacenza – and the Republic of San Marino. Prior to this assignment, he served at the office of the State Department for Far Eastern and Pacific Affairs and from 2008 to 2011 at the American Consulate in Milan. His other missions have been to Jakarta, St. Petersburg, Rangoon and Tokyo, while from mid-July he will be in Cambodia.
