To report the news is the Italian Episcopal Conference which gives notice of the answer to questions on the questions posed by the bishops themselves at Ministry of the Interior. The Scientific Technical Committee, asked by the Interior Ministry, observes that, “since they certainly cannot be considered extraneous to each other, the spouses can avoid wearing masks, with the precautions that the officiant maintains the use of the respiratory protective device and respects the physical distance of at least 1 meteror”. The CTS also believes that this recommendation may extend to the celebration of marriage according to the civil ceremony or according to the liturgies of other religious denominations.
If the novelty of the wedding concerns the restricted number of couples who confirmed the marriage despite Covid post-emergency norms, the removal of the obligation for priests to wear gloves during the distribution of Communion instead regards all the faithful. Regarding the request to “derogate from the obligation of gloves when distributing Communion”, the Scientific Technical Committee – the Italian Episcopal Conference reports – recommends that the priest “proceed to a scrupulous cleansing of one’s hands with hydroalcoholic solutions“. The faithful are also recommended to clean their hands before taking the host and in any case the expert recommendation remains to continue to eto say Communion directly in the mouth.
