Paris, a new report on a young man from a banlieue who died in the gendarmerie, ignites the streets

Paris also burns. “Traoré like Floyd”, “all against the police”, “revolt”. While New York extends the curfew, the French capital in Europe becomes inflamed for Adama Traoré, the young man of banlieue who died in 2016 while he was in standstill. Thousands have demonstrated before the Paris court challenging the police ban. Then in the evening, the result of the counter-expertise: Traoré died for asphyxia, determined by a “ventral tackle” of the gendarme who immobilized him.

The protesters gathered in large numbers, responding to the appeal of the support committee for the Traoré family, the 24-year-old black man who became the symbol of the protest against police violence: “Today – said the older sister in front of the demonstrators – this is no longer the battle of the Traoré family, it is the battle of all of you. Today when we fight for George Floyd, there is also a struggle for Adama Traoré ”.

Many slogans against the police and the gendarmes, in an incandescent climate that made the Italians react harshly prefect Didier Lallement, who protested: “The police are neither violent nor racist. I realize the pain in the face of accusations of violence and racism, repeated endlessly by the social network and certain groups of activists – wrote Lallement in an email addressed to the 27,500 agents of the capital – in the police there are no races, there are are officials who are committed to the freedom, equality and brotherhood and this every day ”. So: “If any of us make a mistake in the need for impartiality and excellence that is part of us, it will be sanctioned as always.”

The story of Traoré, a young man from 24 years died on July 19, 2016 in a barracks of the gendarmerie in the Paris suburb two hours after his detention, which took place after a chase, has become over the years a battle between experts, among appraisals that exonerated the agents and counter-appraisals requested by the family who nail them. Only last week, some judicial experts they had concluded a report that excluded the responsibility of the gendarmes, but on Tuesday 2 June a decision to the contrary came at the end of a counter-appraisal requested by the family.
