Masa, one of the most expensive restaurants on the face of the earth, now also offers the possibility of buying take-away food. The bad news is that you can’t afford it anyway.
Masa offers Japanese cuisine, is located on the fourth floor of the Time Warner Center of New York, and is universally recognized as the most expensive restaurant in the United States of America – and therefore probably of the world.
His renowned Chef, Masayoshi Takayama, brought to the restaurant as a dowry three Michelin stars. Most restaurants of this type tend not to order take-away food, but something broke in March of this year. The global pandemic has forced all businesses to rethink their business model, and Masa makes no exceptions.
Thus was born the idea of one sushi box, like those sold by every “other” Japanese restaurant – and by “other” we mean those who don’t have Jared Kushner as a regular guest every night.
Masa produces only 20 boxes of this type per week, and deliveries take place strictly from 15:30 to 17:00. Eater journalist Gary He ordered one, and in his review he also explains that ordering the Masa Sushi Box it is also the only way to take photos to share on Instagram of the restaurant dishes. Masayoshi Takayama is notoriously very strict on this, and one of the rules of his restaurant imposes an absolute ban on photographs. Nobody controls you in your home.
The box includes a wide variety of different types and cuts of fish, from the amberjack carpaccio, to the salmon, passing through the Toro (the fattest and most delicious part of the tuna). The box also includes slices of toasted bread, 25 slices of nori, a portion of rice to accompany the fish, wasabi and ginger.
The highlight, he writes, is caviar on a bed of bull tartare. Everything looks great, but the price is prohibitive: a single box costs $ 800.
Perhaps the price necessary to force Takayama to commit a heresy: the same chef in a previous interview with Eater had explained that sushi should be enjoyed immediately after its preparation, and even a few seconds later, they involve changes in the taste of fish. Masa Sushi Box can be refrigerated and then consumed up to two days after purchase.
