“I can not sleep. I start to tremble every time I hear a scooter on the street. I’m afraid someone will come and deliver hot pizzas one more time, the umpteenth time. ”
The incredible story, narrated by Het Laatste Nieuws and filmed by the Brussel Times, features Jean van Landeghem, a 65-year-old man who lives in Thurnout, Belgium. And that, for almost a decade now, has received a rider’s visit every day, even several times a day.
“It all started over nine years ago. Suddenly a bellboy handed me a pizza slot, without having ordered them. And from that day he has never stopped. Indeed, they have never stopped because they have been and are always different people. Pizzas, hamburgers, kebabs, skewers at any time of day or night. I can’t take it anymore, I can’t sleep: it’s a nightmare from which I can’t wake up ».
The point of no return a year and a half ago: “I remember it very well – says Jean between the exasperated and the maddened -. It was January 2019: ten different deliveries arrived on the same day and one of those riders even had 14 pizzas. I never had to pay a euro because I never ordered them, but it is an unpleasant situation for both me and the managers ».
Hoax? Prank? Jean swears and perjusts: «I am clearly the victim of a joke, but by whom and for what reason? The same thing happened to a friend of mine who lives in Herenthout and we suspect it is common knowledge. We have reported everything to the police, but we have not yet discovered anything. “
In short, in Thurnout (and Herenthout) he gropes in the dark. Waiting for the mystery to be solved, Jean declares that he no longer wants to eat a pizza in his life. And he promises: “When I find out who is responsible, a bad day will pass …”.
