The Test of the Decimonono will continue week by week: this piece will be updated accordingly every Monday
We downloaded the app on a smartphone OnePlus 5 updated to Android 9: the initial setup is quite simple, and as promised “sensitive” data are not requested, if not in which region and in which province (not city) you live; the app does not allow the acquisition of screenshots during its use.
Week 1: first updates, first fright
To work, Immuni requires that the bluetooth connection is always active, because use that (and not the gps) to monitor the contacts between our mobile phone and those of others: we have not noticed excessive battery consumption nor anomalies in the duration of the same, although it must be said that on the smartphone used for the test the bluetooth was already kept constantly on.
In its first 7 days of life, the app has already received two updates, which is a very good thing and shows attention from developers to user reviews and any bugs. After one of these, however, a small fright: when opening it, an alarm message appeared with a red writing, similar to the notification that should come if you are exposed to the infection (it’s this one). Luckily it was only the warning of “Service not active”: we restored it and everything went back to normal.
We also tried to enter one of the random codes that the app generates to allow users to declare themselves coronavirus positive through the menu Upload data: still does not work, and however (as was announced) requires the assistance of an operator of the health service, also to avoid making mistakes. Or to make “jokes” of doubtful taste.
Some advice for using Immuni
If you want to try it, the app is called Immuni and you can find it on the Play Store of Google or on the App Store of Apple: it is not Immune System, as they believed several Italians who accidentally downloaded this app, created to explain the functioning of the immune system to English students.
Immuni is compatible with iPhones with ad update iOS 13.5 or higher and with Android phones that have Bluetooth Low Energy, Android 6 and up (Marshmallow) and Google Play Services updated to at least version 20.18.13; even for the latter requirement, the app does not work properly on some of the phones produced by Huawei and Honor.
To get to know Immuni better there is the immuni.italia.it website and also the toll free number 800912491, active every day from 7 to 22.
