Mario Corsophenomenal left-handed of the Great Inter champion of Europe and the world in the sixties who died at 78, would have celebrated his 79th birthday in August. He had been hospitalized for days.

In the Inter milit from 1957 to 1973 before moving to Genoa, where he ended his career in 1975. With the Nerazzurri shirt he collected 509 appearances, scoring 94 goals and winning four national championships, two Champions Cups and two Intercontinental Cups. Inter was also coach in season 1985-1986, taking over from exonerated Ilario Castagner and leading the team to the sixth final place.

Talented needlepoint taciturn and shady, as dominant with Herrera’s super titled team as it was excluded and marginalized in the national team. Man from the famous punishment dead leaf, also nicknamed Left foot of God, highly intelligent playmaker, due to harsh contrasts with the c.t. Edmondo Fabbri and of constant misunderstandings about the role, he was never called up for a World Cup or a European. He made his debut in 1961 against England, in the same year he scored a brace against Israel in the World Cup qualifiers, but was excluded from the disappointing expedition to Chile. Same dynamics for the 1966 World Cup and for the 1968 European Championship won at home by Italy. Totalize 23 appearances and 4 goals in ten years.

Despite the few appearances and the little consideration with the blue shirt, he was nominated three times for the Golden Ball, classifying seventh in the 1964 edition, and inserted three years later by Fifa in the Rest of the World formation for the farewell match of the famous Spanish goalkeeper Ricardo Zamora.

Of him Pel, the strongest footballer of his time, explicitly said that he would have wanted it in his Brazil: this to make young people understand the extent of my friend’s class, the pained memory of Massimo Moratti, former Nerazzurri president. It was the my favourite of Grande Inter but also my father loved it, and he always remained close to our family. Superfine technique, game in counter-time, punishment … It was a pleasure to see him play ….
