The 34-year-old pregnant woman, born in Bangladesh but residing in Palermo, arrived from London and hospitalized for several days in the intensive care and resuscitation unit of the Palermo Brain hospital after being tested thanks to a cesarean section at Covid-19. “The further aggravation of the patient’s clinical condition and following the last consultation this morning between intensivists, obstetricians and neonatologists, who have carried out an important team work – says the head of the intensive care unit of the ‘Cervello’ hospital Baldo Renda – it was decided to perform an urgent cesarean section at the beginning of the thirtieth week “. The intervention, Renda assures, “went well, the child was entrusted to the care of neonatologists and now the lady, who unfortunately has severe respiratory failure, is sedated and in a pharmacological coma”.
It is not the first case in Italy of premature childbirth with a positive result. Now we will have to wait for the tests to ascertain whether the child has also been infected.
