Holidays 2020: the coronavirus does not stop the desire for holidays for three Italians out of four

MILAN – Despite the pandemic, the Italians do not seem willing to give up their holidays. Even if, for obvious reasons, they will choose more “comfortable” destinations favoring health security. One in two people – says research conducted by Quorum / YouTrend for Wonderful Italy – has already decided that it will go on vacation. And another 25% are thinking about it these days. Only one in four respondents currently exclude wanting or being able to go on vacation. Even on the destination the solution is clear: nine out of ten will remain in Italy and just under half will choose a holiday home where it is easier to have a garden or swimming pools and control social distancing.

“The research confirms what we are verifying in reality these days, there is a huge demand from Italian families of houses for rent for next summer” he explains Michele Ridolfo, CEO of Wonderful Italy, portal specialized in offering holidays in private homes in Sicily, Puglia, Campania, Liguria and Piedmont.

Favorite destination is the sea

Among the destinations, Italy wins: almost 9 out of 10 respondents indicate it as the most probable destination, and possibly at the sea (66%), while the mountain is coveted by 22.4% of the sample. Cities of art attract only 6%. For six out of ten the holiday is with the family, while 52% rhymes with a couple and 23% with friends. Only seven out of a hundred would go on holiday alone.

Age groups and employment

Under 35 and over 55 who with 56% and 52% respectively have declared that they will certainly go on vacation on the intention to go on vacation. Below the national average, however, the response of the population between 35 and 54 years of age, which for now has stopped at 40%. The personal data is also consistent with the employment of those who have already made the decision to go on vacation, given that the general data is driven by students (56%), pensioners (56%) and self-employed workers (58%).

The survey also takes into account the effects of Coronavirus by asking what would be the ideal accommodation for a vacation. Well, 44% prefer a house, a solution that is considered safer from a health point of view and that allows greater guarantees on social distancing, while one in three will go to the hotel and only slightly less than 7% to camping and even less in village (3%).
