The US media, citing the same diplomatic sources, write that in the list (still a draft that will have to receive the ok of the European capitals in the next few hours and be made official by Tuesday 30 June) not even Russia and Brazil would appear. For Brussels, these states, together with the US, have not yet brought the pandemic under control and their citizens represent too high a risk of contagion. In the list of the 15 countries whose travelers will be allowed to enter in Europe there would instead be China, provided that Beijing ensures reciprocity. According to US media, in addition to China, the countries that will have the green light from Brussels are Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Hungary.

The United States posted a new record of coronavirus infections on Friday, over 40,000 new cases. According to Johns Hopkins University, there were 40,135, bringing the global number to the United States to 2,467,510 patients who contracted the virus, with between 5% and 8% of Americans infected. More than 30 US states are experiencing an increase in cases, with the worst situations in Florida, Texas, California and Arizona. The dead now exceed 125 thousand.

An EU diplomat at CNN has called it very “unlikely” that American travelers will enter the European Union, adding that, although a definitive list has not yet been drawn up, “the chances for the United States are close to zero”. The diplomat added that “with their rate of infection, I don’t even believe in the possibility” of being able to travel to the Old Continent.
